Knowing how to make your smart ID application online booking is important if you wish to avoid long queues when you eventually visit a Home Affairs branch in South Africa.
Advance booking allows you to visit a branch at a date and time of your own choosing. It also means that you’re more likely to save time at the branch as you make your application. This article provides an easy guide to Home Affairs online booking for ID card and passport applications.
Home Affairs smart ID application online booking
To start your smart ID application online booking, visit the Home Affairs Branch Appointment Booking System on your device’s browser and follow the steps outlined below:

Choose the identification type (ID number or passport number), enter the details in the field provided and click “Proceed.” The service is only available to individuals who have a South African ID number or a passport registered on the Home Affairs system.
Step 2: Authentication
Enter your name and surname as they appear on your identity document. Also enter your cellphone number (email address is optional). Click “Authenticate.”
Step 3: Select a branch
Once the system authenticates your details, click “Schedule Appointment.” Next, select a branch where you would like to make a booking for, starting with your province followed by your city. The system will then display the available branches in your city. Choose your preferred branch and click “Proceed.”

Step 7: Confirm booking details
The system will now display your booking details, including names, cellphone number, appointment branch, booking type, and appointment date and time. If the details are incorrect, click “Edit user details.” If they are correct, click “Confirm.”
Step 8: Finish
