DStv prices for most packages are set to increase on 1 April 2024 by between 3.1% and 7.8%, MultiChoice South Africa announced on Monday (19 February).
Prices for EasyView and streaming-only packages will however remain unchanged. Compact Plus and Access have the highest percentage hikes of 6.9% and 7.8% respectively, higher than 2023’s average inflation of 6% as announced by Statistics South Africa.
In rand terms, the increase for each package is as follows:
- DStv Premium: R50
- DStv Compact Plus: R40
- DStv Compact: R20
- DStv Family: R10
- DStv Access: R10
- DStv EasyView: R0
MultiChoice SA CEO Marc Jury justified the steep increases as “fair” because of additional offerings. For example, the Access package will continue getting La Liga while Compact Plus will be getting Showmax content soon, he said.

The table below summarises the monthly 2024 DStv prices for Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, Access and EasyView packages, including the percentage increases:

Among the add-ons, only the Access Fee will go up by 4.3% from R115 in 2023 to R120 in 2024. Prices for ADD Movies and Box Office will remain unchanged at R79 and R40 respectively.
Price lock
Jury said to avoid the increases, DStv subscribers have the option of taking up a 24-month contract before 1 April that will have a “price lock.” This means that DStv Premium, Compact and Access subscribers will continue paying current prices for 24 months if they take the contract.
Subscribers can upgrade their packages during the 24 months. However, downgrading or cancellation come with additional fees.
Showmax will continue to be free for Premium subscribers. Those with other packages can also add Showmax to their monthly DStv bill.
