If you’re not happy with your National Senior Certificate (NSC), it is important to know the Matric rewrite 2023 registration details, including the closing date, if you wish to rewrite some or all of the subjects.
Luckily, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has provided all the required information to enable learners in South Africa to have a second chance at passing Matric exams.
Matric rewrite 2023 registration
To start your Matric rewrite 2023 registration, visit your nearest District office and ask to apply for the Second Chance Programme. Bring along your ID and Matric certificate or statement of results.
You can check where your nearest District office is on the DBE’s Education Districts website. It lists all the offices for each province along with their contacts, including telephone number, email address and physical address.
Alternatively, there is an online registration option which may be more convenient for some candidates. To register, visit the government’s e-services portal and click “Education.”
On the page that loads next, click “Registration.” The system will then ask you to log in using your email and password or register if you don’t have a profile on the e-services portal. Once you’re logged in, you will then be able to register to rewrite Matric exams or subjects.
Closing date
According to the Department of Basic Education website and Minister Angie Motshekga’s speech while announcing the results recently, the Matric rewrite 2023 registration closing date is 8 February 2023.
“Those who wish to improve their results should consider enrolling for the Second Chance Matric Programme. Registration into the Programme is already open and will close on 08 February 2023,” the Minister said.
However, DBE recently shared a poster on Twitter that indicated the closing date to register for the May/June Matric exams as 15 March 2023.
Current Affairs ZA reached out to the Department to obtain clarification but had not received a response at the time of publication. It may therefore be advisable to register before 8 February just to be on the safe side.
Once you have registered, you can visit the DBE’s Second Chance Programme website for resources on all Matric subjects. Click on the subject you wish to improve upon to view a link to the multimedia resources.
These resources will help you improve your understanding of the subject, identify your weaknesses and correct your mistakes as you prepare for your Matric rewrite. Good luck!
