The SA Social Security Agency (SASSA) has published a list of people who have not claimed their approved R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grants from the first cycle.
The grant’s first cycle ran from May 2020 until April this year. The second cycle started this month and payments have already started.
August 31 deadline
In a statement on Friday (27 August), SASSA reiterated its earlier communication that the deadline for claiming approved SRD grants from the first cycle is Tuesday, 31 August 2021.
“SASSA is calling upon special COVID-19 SRD grant clients (from the initial phase from May 2020 – April 2021) who were approved but never collected their R350 grants to check their names on the list available on the SASSA website and proceed to claim their grants at the nearest Post Office,” the Agency said.
“Special COVID-19 SRD grants not collected by 31 August 2021 will be sent back to the National Treasury to fund other government priorities.
“Enquiries can be made on 0800 60 10 11 to confirm if there is any outstanding balance.”
Where to check the list
If you are not sure whether you have unclaimed SASSA SRD grants from the first phase or not, you can check the list published on SASSA’s website here.
The list is in an Excel document and is arranged according to the different provinces. It contains thousands of names arranged alphabetically for each province.
In case you have approved but unclaimed grants, you can collect them at your nearest Post Office branch. There are more than 1,400 SAPO branches across South Africa.
“If you have outstanding COVID-19 social relief grant payments to be collected at a Post Office, you can select the SAPO branch where you want to collect,” SASSA said.
Beneficiaries can also schedule their collection online by visiting the SASSA website here.
They will need to provide their ID number and cellphone number they used to make the application.
