Mzansi’s famous “KFC couple” met Precious Thamaga, popularly known as Precious the Planner, on Wednesday to begin preparations for their much-anticipated wedding.
KFC SA announced last week that Hector Mkansi, 37, and Nonhlanhla Soldaat, 28, will have their wedding on New Year’s Eve.
Thamaga, who is one of South Africa’s top wedding planners, posted photos of herself with the adorable couple on Twitter.
‘The national couple’
She wrote, “Wedding Planner to the National Couple. The date is set; @KFCSA reached out to me at the request of the couple.
“I met with Bhuti Hector and his lovely wife Sis Nonhlanhla today. Wedding planning underway, I can’t wait. #KFCProposal# StreetwiseWedding #precioustheplanner.”
Mkansi and Soldaat warmed the hearts of thousands of South Africans when a video of their proposal at a KFC restaurant earlier in November went viral.
Within a short time, dozens of corporate entities, celebrities and ordinary citizens pledged to contribute to their wedding in various ways.
Pro bono wedding planning
Thamaga was among those who offered their services pro bono. She tweeted at the time, “I will plan, design and coordinate the wedding pro bono and collab with one of the venues, dress & suit designers.”
Kulula.com offered them a fully paid honeymoon in Cape Town, Total SA offered free fuel during their wedding, and Audi SA pledged free rides during their honeymoon.
Celebrities weren’t left behind. Singer Zakes Bantwini offered to perform at Mkansi and Soldaat’s wedding for free.
MC and TV personality K Naomi added, “If the wedding committee will have me. In addition to the dress, I’d be happy to assist with jewellery! Every girl deserves to be the bell of the ball.”
It’s unclear at this stage where the couple will have their nuptials. They met in 2010 and Mkansi began paying lobola the same year, according to TimesLIVE.
However, financial constraints delayed their plans for a proper wedding. Thanks to South Africa’s spirit of Ubuntu, their dreams are now set to come true.
