SASSA has issued a summary of declined reasons for the R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grant and the meanings behind them.

The Agency provided the summary on Tuesday (14 September) via its social media pages.

SRD grant declined reasons and meanings

Here is a summary of SRD grant declined reasons and what they mean, as explained by SASSA:

Alternative income source identified

This means that the applicant has an income flowing of more that R595 per month.

Identity verification failed

This means that the personal information the applicant provided does not match details available at the Department of Home Affairs.

Existing SASSA grant

The applicant is a current recipient of a social grant.

NSFAS registered

This means that the applicant is receiving a benefit from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

UIF registered

When this reason shows, it means that the applicant is in receipt or eligible for an Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefit.

Gov payroll registered

The meaning for this declined reason is that the applicant is in employment in a government institution.

Age outside range

The applicant does not qualify for the grant because he/she does not meet the age requirement.

Referred risk linked mobile

This means that a fraudulent application has been received from the cellphone number.

Referred SAFPS

The client is registered as a perpetrator of fraud with the South African Fraud Prevention Services (SAFPS). This happens when SASSA has been alerted that the ID number of the applicant has been used in fraudulent activities or is linked to high-risk activities. The client needs to urgently send an email to referred.sassa.gov.za to provide proof that they have cleared the problem.

Debtor undefined

In a separate tweet, SASSA explained that “debtor undefined” means that the applicant was paid in the last round but when audits were conducted, they were found not to have been deserving and need to pay back before they are considered for this round.

The Agency also reminded applicants that they have a right to lodge an appeal or reconsideration within 30 days of the outcome of their application.
