On Tuesday, viewers of SABC3‘s The Insider SA got to see how the Somizi and Mohale wedding anniversary getaway went down.

The popular couple stayed in a one-of-a-kind romantic treehouse that overlooks the &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve, allowing them to experience nature at this luxurious safari getaway.

Showcasing their love

Speaking during the show, Mohale said they decided to showcase their love to the world – through a four-part wedding special on Showmax – to promote acceptance of gay relationships.

“Telling our love story was not just about us as a couple, but it was also about making this a norm. So, igniting what we have really ignites what other people could have,” he said.

The couple got back to “hustling” soon after their wedding and honeymoon. Somizi dispelled the notion that they have it easy because they have made it.

“People think once you’ve ‘made it’ you can just relax. It doesn’t work like that. The higher you get, the harder you have to work,” he explained.

Somizi is of course a prominent media personality and entrepreneur while Mohale is an entrepreneur, model and actor. Their busy schedules mean catching a break is sometimes hard.

&Beyond Ngala Treehouse

This is why their remote overnight retreat in the &Beyond Ngala Treehouse, which is located in the middle of the reserve bordering the Kruger National Park, was even more special.

The Treehouse is four stories high, kitted with a dark-wood kitchen, a copper-accented bathroom, a spacious bedroom among the trees, and a rooftop to gaze at the starlit sky after sunset.

Naturally, this romantic Somizi and Mohale wedding anniversary retreat took their breath away. “How are we ever going to top this? It’s the perfect spot for an anniversary; the perfect spot for a honeymoon,” Somizi said.

“This is a proper, luxurious treehouse. I’m wondering how much they’d sell it to us for?” Mohale joked as they lounged on their outdoor, rooftop bed and stargazed.

The couple had a South African favourite – kudu – for dinner under a starlit African sky. “This is an amazing experience. This is our first outdoor, romantic dinner so we’re excited about it – mainly because it’s in the bush in the middle of nowhere!” Somizi said.

Game drive

Somizi and Mohale also had an unforgettable game drive through the reserve’s 14,700 hectares of private wilderness land. They spotted plenty of wildlife.

Elephants especially fascinated Somizi, who marvelled, “Their presence is amazing. They’re big and strong, yet at the same time, they’re gentle and humble.”

For Mohale, whose surname Motaung means “lion,” his highlight was witnessing a buffalo kill by lions. “I’ve never seen lions feast like this, but I’m very excited. They’re my favourite animal. They’re majestic! They’re so powerful.”

Future plans

The Insider SA also asked the couple about their future plans. Mohale plans to keep growing his company, Glam Troupe, and pursue his acting career further.

As for Somizi, he’ll continue working on his cookbook, which he will release at the end of November for the festive season. This year has also introduced his very own cooking show, Dinner at Somizi’s.

The entrepreneur also plans to launch his Somizi Crockery Range Kitchenware. “There’s a lot more for 2021,” he promised.
