Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi stands up for dark-skinned girls in inspiring post

Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi has shared an inspiring message in support of dark-skinned girls.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Tunzi said she has been receiving “unkind comments” about her “blackness” since she was crowned.

She added that these comments are often directed at brown-skinned girls at some point in their lives.

Tunzi said she sees this as “an opportunity to educate and speak out on a serious issue.”

Society has previously been programmed in such a way that there’s nothing beautiful about being black. The furthest you are from being fair skinned the uglier you are.

She said although it’s difficult for some people to unlearn these perceptions, her mission is to help change them – starting with Miss Universe.

I am going into Miss Universe with hopes to shatter whatever misconception and stereotypes people have of beauty.

Hurtful comments against dark-skinned women are exactly the reason why such women should “insert themselves in spaces where we have been told we do not belong,” Tunzi added.

‘I am beautiful’

The gorgeous Miss SA ended her message on an uplifting and determined note:

To whoever else thinks that black is not beautiful, I cannot wait for you to experience the depth and magic of a black woman.

I am a daughter of the African soil and I am beautiful. See your face reflected in mine.

Tunzi’s inspiring post garnered plenty of support and encouragement from social media users and fellow celebrities.

Miss SA 2018 Tamaryn Green replied, “Yes Queen! You use your voice!”

Media personality Zizo Tshwete also wrote, “Beautifully expressed @zozitunzi! We are 100% behind you, Sisi omhle!”

Miss SA 2010 Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala wasn’t left behind, “You are beautiful in every way !!! Daughter of the soil.”

Metro FM disowns Twitter poll on Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi after outrage

Metro FM has distanced itself from a controversial Twitter poll on new Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi.

The poll was posted on the radio station’s Twitter account on Saturday morning. It has since been deleted.

It asked the question, “What do you think of the new Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi? Is she: Stunning; Just OK; Wrong choice?”

The poll left many Twitter users outraged, as they felt that Metro FM was trying to cast doubt on whether Zozibini was a deserving winner or not.

Still can’t believe they went so low just to get RT’s & likes; disappointing for a big Radio station like Metro FM.

Metro FM should be cancelled for that poll! @zozitunzi
is gorgeous, well-spoken and MULTITALENTED! Have y’all heard her sing?!

Twitter user Thandokazi Mfundisi

This poll made me feel all sorts shame for being a MetroFM listener. Why would you even have wrong choice as an option? We deserve a public apology from the station to our newly crowned queen @zozitunzi.

Twitter user MissNdazo Petra

Metro FM soon posted an apology indicating that the poll had not been approved or endorsed.

Metro FM dos not stand for the content of this poll and distance ourselves from it. We consider this to be totally against our ethos and brand value.

The station said it would carry out an internal inquiry and take measures against those found responsible.

We together with the rest of South Africa celebrate women of all backgrounds and are truly proud of the new Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi.

We sincerely apologise to her and the rest of South Africa unreservedly.

She’s done it again: ‘Best host’ Bonang bowls over Miss SA viewers

Going by fan reaction on social media, it seems media personality Bonang absolutely nailed yet another presenting gig.

Queen B co-hosted Miss South Africa 2019 with 2015’s winner Liesl Laurie on Friday evening.

Bonang rocked three dresses and totally slayed in them. Her bright yellow, off-the-shoulder evening gown was particularly eye-catching.

None other than fellow media personality Boity complimented Bonang for her amazing looks.

Author and marketing heavyweight Khaya Dlanga also had something to say. The Cleopatra look clearly had many viewers duly impressed.

“Bonang channelling Cleopatra.” – Khaya Dlanga.

Bonang’s presenting skills further cemented her place as one of the top presenters in South Africa.

Really, quite soon, there won’t be much debate about that.

And just when you thought the Queen B was done, there was something else.

Her champagne brand got an advertising slot…in a show she was presenting. Hold up!

Imagine hosting #MissSA2019 and go to a commercial break that has your champagne as part of the Ads? Bonang is a G.O.A.T.

All this happening on Women’s Day folks. Now that’s type of goddess status, Bonang. Stay blessed.

Eastern Cape’s Zozibini Tunzi is crowned Miss South Africa 2019

25-year-old Zozibini Tunzi has emerged as 2019’s Miss South Africa.

The Eastern Cape-born Tunzi overcame stiff competition from 14 other contestants to clinch the coveted crown on Friday evening.

The star-studded and colourful ceremony took place at the Sun Arena in Tshwane.

Tunzi will now be South Africa’s hope at upcoming global beauty pageants. She takes over the mantle from 2018’s winner Tamaryn Green.

She particularly endeared herself to fans across the country with her natural looks.

Tunzi appeared to have won over the judges as well when she spoke passionately about education and how important it is.

I am firm believer in education, and I would advise that they push education. We might not be able to do much for elders, but we can do so much for children by starting them early.

Just a month ago, she was excited at making the finalists, adding, “I’m extremely humbled and grateful for the opportunity.”

Now her dreams have come true and she’s truly on top of the world. Congratulations!
