It’s Friday and as usual (except for holidays or the festive season), the government has issued DPSA Circular 28 of 2023 with the latest public service vacancies in South Africa as of 11 August.
This gives job seekers around the country yet another opportunity to search for employment in the public service, which is the largest single employer in South Africa.

If you have a specific entity in mind, head over to the DPSA’s newsroom page for links to each entity. This could save you loads of time going through the entire 218-page circular, which is nevertheless indexed for easier reference.
Once you submit a job application and it is successful, you should receive communication from the department or province you applied to within three months. “It is important to note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all information and attachments in support of the application are submitted by the due date,” most advertisements in the circular state.
“Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. If you have not been contacted within three months of the closing date of the advertisement, please accept that your application has been unsuccessful.”
Depending on the seniority of the position you apply for, you may be required to undergo further competency assessments after being shortlisted. These may include technical exercises, second round interviews and pre-employment screening such as criminal record checks.
Advertised jobs range from senior management positions, such as Chief Directors, Directors and Deputy Directors, to lower-level positions such as cleaners, security officers, receptionists and registry clerks.
