The long-awaited Dave Matthews Band South Africa tour is scheduled to take place in December 2023, the popular rock group announced in a press statement on Monday (5 June).
The band last toured South Africa in 2013, making this tour a rare opportunity to watch it perform live in the country. It’s even more special because its leader, Dave Matthews, was born in Johannesburg in 1967. His family moved with him to the US when he was just two years old before returning in 1977. He became a naturalised US citizen in 1980 before finally moving to New York in 1986.

The South African tour comes soon after the release of the Dave Matthews Band’s 10th studio album Walk Around The Moon in May. Notable singles from the 12-track album include Madman’s Eyes, Monsters and the title track Walk Around The Moon.
“Walk Around The Moon is a pandemic-born record that is as much a reflection on the current times as it is an urge to find common ground,” the band said.
The album has scaled the charts, debuting at number 5 on the Billboard 200, number 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums, and number 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums.
Lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Matthews formed the band in 1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Over the years, its ticket sales have been among the highest of all acts in North America.
