The FlySafair R9 sale date and time have been officially confirmed, setting the stage for the biggest flight ticket bonanza in South Africa this year.
The airline confirmed the details in a Twitter post on Tuesday (2 May). 50,000 tickets are up for grabs – and they’re likely to sell out quickly, perhaps in a matter of hours.
FlySafair R9 sale date and time
The FlySafair R9 sale date is Wednesday, 3 May 2023 at 09h00 (9am). The airline advised South Africans interested in the tickets to book on the FlySafair website from this date and time. The sale will only take place on the website, not the app.
When you visit the website during the sale, you will automatically join a queue via a redirect. After a waiting period, you will be redirected back to the main website without losing your place in the queue. You will then be able to make a booking.
Some Twitter users expressed concern that the airline’s online system might crash because of the anticipated huge amount of website traffic. However, FlySafair replied, “We have made provisions and everything will go fine.”
“Just in case, keep your devices charged, stay by a strong WiFi connection, have a generator on hand for load shedding, and maybe even take the morning off. After all, a sale this big only comes around once a year!” it jokingly added.
“To help control the crowds, every few minutes a random amount of people in our waiting room will be allowed through to our site to book R9 flights. It’s really the luck of the draw as to how long you wait. Will it be 1 minute or 20? Be patient and pray that fortune favours you!”
In an earlier update, the airline advised prospective buyers to create a profile on its website before the sale. This will allow them to pre-load their traveller information, save their card details and make their payments even faster once the sale is officially open.
The R9 tickets are for domestic routes only, and your travel date can fall anywhere between May and November 2023. According to FlySafair’s Twitter replies, you can also book multiple tickets as well as return tickets.
If you’re not participating in the sale but still wish to book tickets, you can escape the queue and anticipated long waiting periods by booking via the FlySafair app. If you don’t have it already, you can download it from Google Play (Android smartphones) or the App Store (iPhones).
FlySafair is holding the sale to mark 14 years of operating in South Africa. Follow its social media pages for further updates as per below:
