The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has made changes to the May 2023 payment dates for all social grants.
The Agency made the announcement in a press statement shared on Facebook on Friday (28 April), with the new dates starting a day later on 4 May instead of 3 May.
Changes to SASSA payment dates for May 2023
Here are the changes to SASSA payment dates for May 2023 for all social grants:
- 4 May – Old Age Pension Grant (previously 3 May).
- 5 May – Disability Grants (previously 4 May).
- 8 May – Children’s Grants and other grants, including foster care, war veterans, care dependency and grant-in-aid (previously 5 May).
The Agency apologised for the “inconvenience and frustration” the changes will cause to social grant recipients.
Fortunately, it confirmed that this change will only be applicable in May 2023, and it would make another announcement should there be any other changes.
SASSA recently published the full payment schedule for 2023/2024, which beneficiaries are advised to download and save on their phones for ongoing reference.
“Beneficiaries are advised to consider using their cards to buy goods or related commodities rather than complete withdrawal of funds,” SASSA said.
“Furthermore, social grant recipients are requested to be patient and not rush to withdraw their money from their accounts, as their money will remain available in their accounts until they are ready to withdraw. Clients who are unable to go and withdraw their funds on the first few days of payment should also not worry or attempt to rush to withdraw.”
