The highly anticipated John Wick Chapter 4 action movie premiered in South Africa at Montecasino in Johannesburg on 20 March 2023.
The glamorous event was well attended, with celebrities such as Cassper Nyovest, Clint Brink, Gerald Steyn, Johnny Potsanyane, Liam Bosman, Reze-Tiana Wessels, Righard van Jaarsveld, Sandi Schultz, Deon Groot, Jaid River and Muller Brandt gracing it. Media personalities and other special guests also attended the screening.
Guests in the packed cinema enjoyed an exclusive martial arts demonstration before viewing the latest instalment of the popular action franchise – one of the best in the 21st century.
The movie follows on from 2019’s John Wick: Chapter Three – Parabellum, which saw the titular character, played by Keanu Reeves, teaming up with Laurence Fishburne to take on the council of crime lords known as the High Table.
In the fourth film, Reeves reprises his role as the infamous and sharply suited hitman to uncover a path to defeating the High Table. But before Wick can earn his freedom, he must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe, and forces that turn old friends into foes.
Reeves is joined again by Fishburne, as well as by action icon Donnie Yen as newcomer Caine, an ex-assassin and an old friend of Wick’s. Additionally, Ian McShane is back as Winston, owner of the Continental Hotel, while Lance Reddick returns as the concierge, Charon. Bill Skarsgård also joins the cast as a member of the High Table.
For fans of over-the-top action, the film won’t disappoint. Although it seems implausible, John Wick: Chapter 4 stretches the franchise’s iconic action sequences further than ever, with plenty of shootouts, martial arts combat and next-level stunt driving.
The film is a must-see for fans of the franchise as, while offering many fresh ideas, it is a culmination of the first three movies, bringing the story to a peak.
