If you’re a recipient of social grants in South Africa using the SASSA/Postbank gold card and it is expiring in March 2023, you need to collect your new card from your nearest Post Office branch as from Monday, 13 March.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) made the announcement in a media statement on Thursday, 9 March.
SASSA gold card expiring in March 2023
SASSA emphasised that only those with gold cards that are expiring in March 2023 should visit their nearest Post Office branch from 13 March.
“Grants recipients carrying cards that are not expiring during March are discouraged from making attempts to collect new cards at the Post Office during this month,” the Agency said.
“SASSA and Postbank will issue a public announcement regarding the dates and processes for the collection of SASSA/Postbank gold cards that expire in further months. Grants recipients having SASSA/Postbank gold cards expiring in further months should not be concerned because they will continue to receive their social grants monies into those cards as they remain valid.”
Dates
Starting from Monday, 13 March 2023, Mondays and Tuesdays will be dedicated to issuing new cards to old age and disability grants recipients.
Starting from Wednesday, 15 March 2023, Wednesday to Saturday will be dedicated to issuing new cards to persons receiving child support grants and all other grants.
Required documents
If your SASSA gold card is expiring and you need a new one, you need to bring the following documents to the Post Office:
- A South African identity document.
- The current SASSA/Postbank gold card that is expiring in March 2023 (03/2023).Â
“Post Office branch staff will assist grants recipients to activate the new cards, select a new PIN and the cards will operate immediately to make withdrawals or any other type of transactions,” SASSA said.
“New SASSA/Postbank gold cards will only be issued at Post Offices to the person in whose name the expiring card has been issued. No person will be able to collect a SASSA/Postbank gold card on behalf of another, unless they are registered with SASSA as a procurator.”
Lost or misplaced SASSA gold card
If you have lost or misplaced your SASSA gold card that is expiring in March 2023, you can also visit your nearest Post Office branch to collect a new one.
“Post Office branch personnel will use fingerprint verification to issue the beneficiary with a new SASSA/Postbank gold card,” SASSA said.
Post Office branch operating hours are as follows:
- Monday to Friday: 08h00-16h00.
- Saturday: 09h00-13h00.
- Sunday: Closed.
