If you’re in South Africa, knowing how to transfer airtime on MTN to MTN can be handy when you need to help out a friend and loved one, whether for the first time or not.
Fortunately, this transaction is as easy as they come and takes just about a minute or so. All you need is airtime loaded on your number (of course!) as well as the number you wish to transfer airtime to. This article outlines this straightforward process.
How to transfer airtime on MTN to MTN
To transfer airtime on MTN to MTN, simply dial the USSD code *136*3# on your cellphone and press send. A set of options will then display on your screen. Choose the transfer airtime option and follow the prompts.
Alternatively, dial the USSD code *136*6328*[cellphone number you’re transferring airtime to]*[value of airtime]# and press send. For example, if you’re sending R50 airtime to 1234567890, then you should dial *136*6328*1234567890*50# and press send.
The transaction will go through as long as you have sufficient airtime to cover the amount you’re sending. The amount you send will be deducted from your airtime balance. Additionally, make sure you enter the correct recipient number to avoid sending airtime to the wrong number. This is because there is no reversal option available.
This service is known as MTN Me2U and it is free of charge, whether you’re transferring airtime for the first time or not. “There is no activation or subscription fee,” MTN states.
This means that it is available for free to all MTN Contract, Anytime TopUp, Off-Peak TopUp or PayAsYouGo customers. They can transfer to any MTN PayAsYouGo, TopUp, Anytime TopUp or Off-Peak TopUp customer.
However, there are some limitations. For instance, there is a daily transfer limit of R1,000 per day and R10,000 per month. Furthermore, you cannot transfer promotional airtime, like the one redeemed from loyalty points.
