The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Mpumalanga has assured social grant beneficiaries that the gold payment card is still valid.
In a statement on Monday (16 January), the Agency dismissed claims that the gold card will expire in April as “fake news.”
SASSA gold card remains active
“The gold card remains active, even though there is an expiring date. Beneficiaries must not panic or succumb to the hijacking by scammers and circulating fake news that the card will expire in April 2023,” SASSA’s Mpumalanga spokesperson Senzeni Ngubeni said.
“SASSA is conveying a correct message that the payment gold card is still authentic and can be used either in Postbank, ATMs, and merchants. Beneficiaries are encouraged also to provide their private bank accounts to SASSA as another option of safe easy payment.”
Ngubeni added that the Agency will “communicate changes if there are any.” It is therefore important for beneficiaries to only obtain SASSA news from official channels and not from unverified sources.
“Fraudsters who pretend to be SASSA officials and target old age people and people living with disability in their residents must be immediately reported to the local SAPS [South African Police Service],” Ngubeni said.
