2022 is coming to an end but social grant beneficiaries in South Africa still the need to know the SASSA payment dates for January 2023 – especially old age pension grant recipients.
Those who receive children’s, foster care, disability and other normal grants similarly need to know the dates early. This would allow them to make their credit or debit arrangements for the first month of the year.
With this in mind, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has published a schedule on its website to inform grant recipients whenever they need this information.
SASSA payment dates for January 2023
As per the official social grants schedule published on the Agency’s website, the SASSA payment dates for January 2023 are as follows:
- 3 January – Old Age Pension Grant.
- 4 January – Disability Grants.
- 5 January – Children’s Grants and other grants.
New Year’s Day, which is officially a holiday in South Africa, will fall on a Sunday. As a result, Monday will be a public holiday.
This means that grant payments will only start on Tuesday, 3 January 2023 for the first batch, which is the old age pension grants. Others will then follow from Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Hopefully, Postbank would have resolved its system challenges that led to the suspension of grant payments at ATMs across the country for the month of December.
This suspension forced grant recipients to collect their grants at retailers using the cashback functionality, but some still reported that they could not their funds from retailers too.
Whatever happens, beneficiaries need to be careful of fraud-related activities, especially those who use the SASSA gold card. Additionally, it is prudent to avoid rushing to withdraw funds on the first day. In the meantime, happy holidays!
