The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has launched a new online streaming service called SABC+ where users can watch or listen to SABC’s content for free.
However, there is a paid package called SABC+ AMP, which offers additional content in daily, weekend, weekly or monthly packages ranging from R7 to R49.
SABC+ streaming service launched
The newly launched SABC+ streaming platform features 19 radio stations and three free-to-air television channels – SABC 1, SABC 2, SABC 3. It also includes the SABC Sports Channel, SABC’s 24-hour news channel and a host of local and international content.
“SABC+ signals a new digital era for the SABC and a key accomplishment in addressing universal access for all citizens,” SABC’s Group Chief Executive Officer Madoda Mxakwe said in a statement on Thursday (17 November).
“SABC+ app also presents a growth path to enhancing our value offering to clients and customers to build a strong foundation for future financial sustainability of the SABC.”
FIFA World Cup on SABC+
The state-owned broadcaster has also partnered with Hisense to distribute the SABC+ app through the Hisense VIDAA Smart TVs and mobile devices in time for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ on 20 November 2022.
This means that Hisense TV owners can download the SABC+ app via the VIDAA app store and watch SABC+ content, including the World Cup, on their TVs. This would be more convenient than watching on smaller devices such as smartphones. SABC said it will expand this capability to all TV models soon.
“We believe that through this partnership, we can create the best possible viewing experience at home for football fans, so as to allow them to focus on enjoying every moment of a FIFA World Cup match,” Hisense South Africa CEO Vivi Liu said.
