The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued an update on R350 social relief of distress (SRD) payments dates for August and September 2022.
In recent weeks, many SRD grant beneficiaries have taken to the Agency’s social media pages to express frustration at the long delays in receiving their payments.
SRD payment dates for August and September 2022
According to a Twitter update on Wednesday (3 October), SASSA said it started releasing SRD payments for August on 21 September 2022. “September payments will be released after the October social grants payments,” it added.
According to the Agency’s schedule for October, normal grants payments were slated for 3 to 5 October. This means that it will start releasing September SRD payments as from 6 October.
SRD reconsiderations/appeal applications
SASSA also provided an update on SRD appeal applications from last year and this year. “The assessment of all reconsideration applications has been completed and those approved paid,” it said.
“Those approved but not yet paid are those whose records are outstanding bank accounts, or bank accounts provided failed bank account verification or bank accounts pending verification from National Treasury.”
Pending application status since July
Some applicants have indicated that their application statuses have been “pending” since July 2022, which means that they have not yet received their payments.
“The applications with a July status of pending will be updated after the August 2022 payments to the applicable outcome,” SASSA explained.
Approved but not paid
Finally, the Agency also addressed an issue where some applicants’ applications have been approved but they have not yet been paid.
It explained, “Those approved but not yet paid are those whose records are outstanding bank accounts, or bank accounts provided failed bank account verification or bank accounts pending verification from National Treasury or those who selected cash send payments (which were made from the 19th of September 2022.”
Meanwhile, Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu is set to brief the media on the SRD grant and the child support grant top-up on Monday, 10 October at 10am.
Many SRD beneficiaries will be hoping that she would address their issues, especially regarding delayed payments.
