By now, South Africans who receive social grants, including the old age pension, would wish to know the SASSA payment dates for September 2022.
Knowing these dates on time enables them to plan financially for the month ahead, including when they would expect to settle household bills. Fortunately, SASSA has a schedule that is available online.
SASSA payment dates for September 2022
According to the official schedule, the SASSA payment dates for September 2022 are as follows:
- 2 September – Old Age Pension Grant.
- 5 September – Disability Grants.
- 6 September – Children’s Grants and other grants.
2 September falls on a Friday while 3 and 4 fall on Saturday and Sunday respectively. This is why there is a gap between the old age grant date and the disability, children’s and other grants’ dates.
Review of social grants in KZN
Meanwhile, in a statement on 11 August, SASSA announced that it has suspended payment of social grants to 38,622 beneficiaries in KwaZulu-Natal who did not heed an earlier call to update their details.
As part of a review of social grants in KwaZulu-Natal, SASSA asked 78,811 beneficiaries and primary care givers in January to present themselves for a review. However, 38,622 beneficiaries did not heed this call, forcing the Agency to suspend their grants from 30 July.
“SASSA must ensure that the information utilised for grant payments is current and that grant payments are made only to those citizens who meet the qualifying criteria,” the Agency explained.
“This means that every beneficiary has a responsibility to inform SASSA of any changes to their personal circumstances, such as changes to their marital status, income, employment status, medical condition and prove that the beneficiary is still alive.”
SASSA urged the affected beneficiaries in KwaZulu-Natal to present themselves for a review at their nearest SASSA offices. They should bring the following documents:
- Identity document of beneficiary.
- Birth certificate of children for Child Support Grants.
- Three-month bank statement of beneficiary and spouse if married.
- Payslip of beneficiary and spouse if married.
- Proof of residence.
- For disability and care dependency grants, beneficiary to undergo a medical assessment.
- Court order in respect of Foster Child Grant.
“After submitting all the required documents within 30 days of suspension of the grant, SASSA may restore the grant from the date on which it was suspended,” the Agency said.
“For further details, affected clients can contact SASSA KZN customer care line on 033 846 3400 or SASSA national toll-free number on 0800 60 10 11.”
The Agency concluded that it is compelled by the Social Assistance Act to conduct these regular reviews.
