The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has unveiled an easy step-by-step guide for the R350 SRD DSD appeal process.
In an update on Twitter on Wednesday (29 June), SASSA indicated that those who wish to appeal their declined social relief of distress grant applications can do so on the new Department of Social Development (DSD) link.
SRD DSD appeal process
If you applied for the R350 grant but it was declined and you disagree with the decision, you can visit the SRD DSD appeal link and follow the steps below:
Step 1. Click on the tab “click here to lodge and appeal or check appeal status” to access the portal.
Step 2: Type in your ID number and the cellphone number you used to make your SRD grant application.
Step 3: Press “send pin.” You will then receive an SMS with the verification PIN. Next, enter the PIN and press “submit.” This verification process ensures that you are the right person making the appeal. Without the verification PIN, you will not be able to proceed. You also need to have the cellphone you used to make application with you, otherwise you will not be able to make the application.
NOTE: If for any reason you have changed or lost your cellphone number, you must log into the “srd.sassa.gov.za” website to update your details. You can do this from 1 July 2022.
Step 4: Please enter the “verification pin” received and press “submit.”
Step 5: Select the month you are appealing for. If you have applied for one month only, it will show the month already. The system will also show you the reason why your application was declined.
Step 6: Please select the “drop down” arrow to choose the reason for your appeal application. Please select one of the reasons on the list. You can now press “submit” to lodge your appeal.
Timeframes
According to SASSA, you must lodge your appeal within 30 days, but not exceeding 90 days, after receiving notification that your application was declined. The Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, has appointed and Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals to consider the appeals.
“Please note [that] an appeal application needs to be lodged in relation to each month where a person is rejected by SASSA, if in disagreement with the decision,” the Agency said.
“The Independent Tribunal will endeavour to finalise the appeal within 60-90 days from the date on which the appeal was received and inform the appellant electronically of the outcome of the appeal and reasons thereof.”
