South Africans who receive normal grants, including the old age pension grant, wish to know the SASSA payment dates for July 2022 as the current month winds up.
This is why the South African Social Security Agency has published a schedule on its website showing the dates for each month until March next year.
SASSA payment dates for July 2022
According to the formal payment schedule, SASSA payment dates for July 2022 are as follows:
- 4 July – Old Age Pension Grant.
- 5 July – Disability Grants.
- 6 July – Children’s Grants and other grants.
5-day processing times
Meanwhile, SASSA aims to process 95 percent of all face-to-face grant applications within five days and online applications within 10 days, Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu told the National Council of Provinces last week.
To this end, the Department has allocated SASSA R7.499 billion for its nationwide operations and grant payment fees.
“In the previous financial year, we piloted the queue management system in local SASSA offices. Our plan is to incrementally roll out this system nationally in the coming years,” the Minister added.
SASSA SRD reconsideration
Regarding the R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grant, SASSA announced last week that it has started making payments to beneficiaries whose reconsideration applications were approved.
“After months of dealing with appeals, verification and reconsideration processes, about 750,000 have been paid and we expect payments to increase to over a million by the end of the week,” the Agency said.
“These payments made in the week are specifically for the reconsideration appeals for the period of August 2021 to November 2021. We appeal to clients to please provide SASSA with their bank account details to enable us to pay them into their own accounts. Notifications to update details have also been sent to clients whose reconsideration appeal has been approved but their bank account details were outstanding.”
SASSA explained that the delay in making these payments, including those for the new cycle (from April), was caused by a change in the SRD grant’s legislative framework. It also implemented a means test for all applications, not just for appeals as was previously the case.
“This required an extensive procurement and systems development process, including partnering with some of the main banks in the country. Due to the challenges with setting up this system, we had a backlog not only with the reconsideration appeals, but also with assessments for the new applications from April 2022,” it explained.
“The payment process has now commenced and having cleared the first four months of backlogs for the reconsideration appeals between August and November, the assessments for the new applications have begun.”
