Kaizer Chiefs have announced the dismissal of attacking midfielder Dumisani Zuma from the club, citing “numerous disciplinary issues.”
In a statement on Thursday, the club said it had to let him go with a year still remaining in his contract.
Kaizer Chiefs fires Dumisani Zuma
“This follows his latest appearance in front of the [disciplinary committee], which resulted in his dismissal as recommended by an independent authority,” Amakhosi said.
“The 27-year-old only featured three times in 2021/22 for Chiefs. Since joining from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2017, he has been suspended a number of times, including twice in one season. He was also sent to rehab and counselling in the season that just ended.”
Zuma’s troubled stint at Kaizer Chiefs lasted five seasons. He featured in 100 matches, starting just 25 and coming in as a substitute in 75. He scored 13 goals.
“We wish Dumi well in the future,” the club concluded. Zuma has not yet publicly reacted to the announcement.
Kaizer Chiefs are parting ways with several other players as they prepare for the new season ahead. They have placed Kenyan defensive midfielder Anthony Akumu Agay on transfer, adding that it will “listen to offers” from other clubs. Agay apeared 47 times for Amakhosi, netting two goals.
Forward Samir Nurković is also leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of June, having been at Chiefs for three years.
Striker Lazalous Kambole is another player in the exodus after 46 appearances and two goals to his name. Lebogang Manyama will also be out of contract from 30 June and is “fee to leave to find a new team.”
“The attacking midfielder joined Amakhosi in August 2018 from Turkish side Konyaspor and played 95 matches, scoring on 15 occasions,” Chiefs said on Wednesday.
Veteran Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso is also out of contract at the end of June. He played 185 games in seven seasons and scored 12 goals.
“Colombian goal poacher Leonardo Castro is saying goodbye to Amakhosi after his great service to the club. Since signing in 2018, the 33-year-old featured 122 times for Amakhosi and scored 27 goals over four seasons,” Chiefs said.
Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is leaving the club as well after 69 games in three-and-a-half years. Others on the move include midfielder Kearyn Baccus and goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter.
