As the month nears its end, beneficiaries of old age pension and other grants need to know the SASSA payment dates for June 2022 before the new month starts.
This allows them to plan their financial affairs better, especially now that payments will start earlier every month compared to previous months.
SASSA payment dates for June 2022
The official payment schedule lists SASSA payment dates for June 2022 as follows:
- 2 June – Old Age Pension Grant.
- 3 June – Disability Grants.
- 6 June – Children’s Grants and other grants.
18 million beneficiaries
Presenting her Department’s 2022/23 Budget Vote in Parliament last week, Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu said there are more than 18 million grant beneficiaries in South Africa.
“Vote 19 of the Department of Social Development is government’s third-largest budget for the 2022/23 financial year, and it constitutes 13.1 percent of government’s overall estimated budget of R1.957 trillion,” Zulu revealed.
“Our budget allocation for the 2022/23 financial year is a total of R257 billion, of which R248 billion is allocated to cover more than 18 million social grants beneficiaries. This social grant investment constitutes 99.6 percent of the Department’s total budget allocation in the current financial year. SASSA will distribute R248 billion directly to more than 18 million beneficiaries monthly.”
A further 10.5 million people are eligible to receive the R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grant, which was extended in February for one more year at a cost of R44 billion.
“By 30 April 2022, in excess of 8.1 million applications had already been received. I assure all qualifying applicants that they will be in receipt of their payments for this iteration of the grant by June,” the Minister said.
Extended child support grant
Zulu added that her Department has allocated R687 million in the 2023/24 financial year and R871 million in 2024/25 to implement the extended child support grant, also known as the top-up child support grant. It will benefit orphans who are in the care of relatives.
“As soon as the amended regulations to the Social Assistance Act of 2004 are published in the next few days, SASSA will be in a position to provide the extended child support grant of R720 per child per month to relatives who are caring for orphaned children,” she said.
“While we expect the extended child support grant to be implemented in June of this year, we estimate that it will be received by over 191,000 relatives during the 2022/23 financial year.
“Let me remind you that in order to access this grant, qualifying applicants need not go through the lengthy Children’s Court process. As a result, the affected children will quickly receive the support they need for them to unlock their full potential.”
