The DStv Premiership 2022/23 season start date has been confirmed as 5 August 2022, according to a circular by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
The MTN8 was initially set to officially kick off the season on that date. However, this will not be the case for the first time in many years. It is now confirmed that the DStv Premiership’s first games will be played on 5 August.
The season will subsequently end on 20 May 2023, with the Nedbank Cup finalists facing off on 27 May 2023.
World Cup break
According to the PSL’s circular, the Premiership will also take a two-month break from 6 November 2022 until 7 January 2023 to accommodate the FIFA World Cup.
The World Cup has been scheduled for 21 November and will end on 18 December in Qatar. Premiership players who have been selected to play in the global soccer competition will be permitted to leave their clubs from 14 November.
Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the competition, which means that South African players in the PSL will miss out.
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori may however appear for Ghana, whose controversial win over Bafana Bafana last year knocked South Africa out of the qualifiers.
2022/23 GladAfrica Championship start date
