Walt Disney’s online video streaming service Disney+ will be available to DStv subscribers in South Africa at launch, MultiChoice announced on Monday (15 April).
Disney+ is set to launch in the country on 18 May 2022 – with an annual subscription available for the price of eight months for those who subscribe before then.
Disney+ via DStv Explora Ultra decoder
MultiChoice said DStv subscribers will be able to view Disney Plus content via the Explora Ultra decoder (as long as they are also subscribed to the latter).
“MultiChoice customers with connected Explora Ultra decoders can enjoy the convenience of accessing all their entertainment needs in one central place, the benefits of exciting bundle deals and limited launch offers especially for those who are signed up to the DStv Rewards programme,” the company said.
The partnership is similar to MultiChoice and Netflix‘s. DStv Premium subscribers also get Showmax for free with their package.
“This is yet another proud milestone in our partnership with the MultiChoice Group. We are delighted to be collaborating to bring South African DStv subscribers access to Disney+’s incredible catalogue of films, series and exclusive content,” The Walt Disney Company Africa’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Christine Service said.
“The digital world has brought with it fundamental shifts and our customers are looking for convenient access to a portfolio of entertainment options,” MultiChoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela added.
“MultiChoice’s partnership with Disney+ leads with an expanded choice of content, ease and convenience of subscription and payment, with the DStv Explora Ultra as an enabler.”
Disney Plus subscribers in South Africa will pay R119 per month or R1,190 per annum. “Subscription offers via DStv and sign-up information will be shared in due course,” MultiChoice said.
