As usual, recipients of the old age pension and other grants need to know the SASSA payment dates for May 2022 on time to plan their financial obligations better.
Furthermore, the South African Social Security Agency announced last month that it will be paying beneficiaries on the second day of each month, unless the date falls on a weekend.
SASSA payment dates for May 2022
According to the official 2022/2023 payment schedule on the SASSA website, the payment dates for May 2022 for old age pension and other normal grants are the following:
- 3 May – Older Persons Pension Grant.
- 4 May – Disability Grants.
- 5 May – all other grants.
SASSA KZN flood relief
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Development (DSD) and SASSA have implemented several measures to support the government’s relief efforts in the aftermath of the recent floods in KwaZulu-Natal.
More than 13,500 households were affected by the KZN floods, with over 400 people losing their lives. President Cyril Ramaphosa subsequently declared the situation a national disaster.
In a statement earlier this week, DSD spokesperson Lumka Oliphant said the Department had established trauma response task teams across the province to provide psychological support to the affected.
“The value of a normal food voucher has also been increased from R700 to R1,200. To date SASSA has issued vouchers to the value of R434,520. The agency has taken new applications for uniforms to the value of R372,280,” she added.
SASSA will also increase the value of cash benefits from R700 to R1,980 in cases where people have lost all of their belongings in the disaster. This amount will be doubled if there has been a loss of life, the provincial Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department said.
The Agency will provide school uniforms to learners who lost them in the disaster. Each affected girl will receive R2,700 and boys will get R2,500 each.
To apply for a food voucher, those affected need to submit their contact details to their ward councillor or social worker, SASSA said. The R1,200 voucher will be provided for one month only because “it is expected that people’s lives will normalise and the other form of SRD including R350 will still be available,” it added.
On Wednesday (20 April), the Post Office announced that it had designated all its 199 branches in Gauteng as drop-off points for donations to KZN flood victims.
“Donation boxes have been placed at all Post Offices in Gauteng and members of the public are requested to put any item they would like to donate into the boxes. The boxes will be sealed when they are full and then dispatched to the distribution points in KwaZulu-Natal,” it said in a statement.
