If you receive your R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grant through the South African Post Office (SAPO), you would naturally want to know when the payment dates for April 2022 are.

SAPO has published a schedule for these dates until June 2022 on its website – and it is available for viewing or download in PDF.

This enables grant recipients to plan their month better. While 1 April is a payment date, 4, 5, 6, and 7 April have been reserved for beneficiaries of normal grants, such as old age pension and child grants.

Confusion

Earlier this month, there was some confusion when SASSA announced that it will now start paying normal grants on the second of every month unless it falls on a weekend.

It said this will provide some relief to grant recipients, especially the elderly, who previously were not certain about when payments would start. This prevented them from planning ahead or making arrangements with their credit providers.

Some R350 SRD grant beneficiaries however thought that this change applied to their dates as well, something SASSA was quick to correct via its social media pages.

“These changes are for the normal social grants, not the special COVID-19 SRD grant,” the Agency tweeted last week in response to an inquiry from an SRD grant recipient.

Payments via Shoprite

Meanwhile, retail group Shoprite announced last week that beneficiaries of the R350 grant can now collect it from Shoprite, Checkers, Usave and selected OK Food supermarkets across the country.

This enables customers to receive their grant, buy essential groceries and pay their bills in a single location,” the group said. This new option adds to the Post Office, bank account and Pick n Pay options.

To collect the grant, beneficiaries need to provide their ID and cell phone number at the till. “It must be the same cell phone number with which they registered on the SASSA database, as a confirmation OTP will be sent to this number to prevent fraud,” Shoprite advised.

“Grants are available from this month for all customers who have already registered online or at the Post Office. In-store registrations are not available.”
