The deadline to complete the Census 2022 online questionnaire is Friday, 25 February 2022, Statistics South Africa has announced.
In a statement on Tuesday (22 February), Stats SA spokesperson Trevor Oosterwyk said this deadline applies to households who registered to complete the form online.
Census 2022 online questionnaire deadline
Oosterwyk raised concern that South African households have been slow to complete the Census 2022 online questionnaire so far.
“While more than 400,000 households had registered for online questionnaire completion, only 25 percent (just over 100,000) have actually completed the questionnaire online,” he explained.
“Households who complete the questionnaire online will be visited by a fieldworker to verify that the questionnaire has been completed.
“Fieldworkers will continue visiting households to collect census data from those that have not registered as well as those that have not completed the online questionnaire.”
Assistance to receive the link
Stats SA advised respondents who have registered but have not received the questionnaire link to contact its call centre on 0800 110 248 for further assistance.
It added that it closed registration for remote data collection, which includes the online form, on Monday, 21 February 2022 after extending an earlier deadline.
According to its earlier statement, Census 2022 is South Africa’s first fully digital census that gives households three options to participate in the once-in-a-decade count.
“In addition to the self-completed web-based form, fieldworkers can capture information on a tablet – either over the phone or in a face-to-face interview.”
The national exercise, which is the fourth since 1994, kicked off in earnest earlier this month after months of preparations. It is set to end in March.
“Accurate census data is critical for planning at all levels of government and society. Stats SA calls on all within the borders of South Africa to do their civic duty and get counted,” Oosterwyk said.
