As the (long!) month of January comes to an end, social grant recipients are understandably interested to know the SASSA payment dates for February 2022, including for old age pension grant.
Luckily, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announces these dates in advance to allow recipients to plan their finances ahead.
SASSA payment dates for February 2022
The SASSA payment dates for February 2022, including for old age pension grant, are listed below:
- 3 February – Older Persons Pension Grant.
- 4 February – Disability Grants.
- 7 February – all other grants.
As is always the case, the first week of every month is reserved for payment of normal social grants. Payments of the R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grant start immediately afterwards.
However, some grant beneficiaries have complained on social media that paying normal grants on the 6th or 7th of the month is “too late.”
“You need to change the dates back to the 1st of the month. It was understandable before when you were paying people extra. 7th is too far the last payment date should not be after the 3rd,” Twitter user Hlengiwe replied to a SASSA update recently.
Another Twitter user, Rochelle George, added, “SASSA can you please give us a fixed date for grant payments? Why a moving calendar as if we don’t have commitments to be met by a certain date?
“Give us a specific date to allow us to negotiate a debit date with our creditors. This isn’t asking for a lot, why is it so difficult?”
The Agency has previously explained that staggering the payment dates across several days is aimed at preventing overcrowding at grant collection points, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Whenever your payment date is, it is important to observe health protocols when visiting ATMs or retail outlets to collect your grant. These include hand sanitising and social distancing.
Reminder for SASSA SRD grant recipients
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (26 January), SASSA reminded SRD grant recipients who get married or change their surname at the Department of Home Affairs to update SASSA of the change.
This is because the Agency validates the recipient’s details every month with Home Affairs. If the details do not match, the grant application for that month may be declined.
