Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Mamelodi Sundowns have announced a brand new partnership with global nutrition company Herbalife Nutrition.
The club announced the news on Thursday (2 December), adding that the partnership was brokered by Roc Nation Sports, which is owned by American rap legend Jay-Z.
Mamelodi Sundowns partnership with Herbalife Nutrition
“The partnership will see Herbalife Nutrition supporting Mamelodi Sundowns with a range of nutrition, wellness, and sports-performance products, supporting them as the football club’s official and exclusive nutrition and sports nutrition partner,” the club said.
This is Herbalife’s first major sports partnership in Africa, reflecting the value Mamelodi Sundowns receives from Roc Nation Sports. The club joined Jay-Z’s sports marketing agency in August this year.
“At Herbalife Nutrition, we strive for excellence in everything we do, an ethos we share with Mamelodi Sundowns, who always bring their best to the field,” Herbalife’s country director for Southern Africa Thilo Naidoo said.
“As the most successful team in the Premier Soccer League era and one of Africa’s football giants, Mamelodi Sundowns share our commitment to nutrition and fitness.”
‘First ever nutrition partner
For his part, the Brazilians’ Tlhopie Motsepe said, “Mamelodi Sundowns is delighted to welcome the club’s first ever nutrition partner to our team of champions.
“Herbalife Nutrition is a globally recognised company that sets the standard in its industry; and like Bafana Ba Style, they are an ambitious organisation that seeks to inspire others through what they do.”
Mamelodi Sundowns join an elite group of sports teams and personalities that collaborate with Herbalife Nutrition across the world, including star soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo and the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer club.
The Brazilians, who are pursuing a fifth consecutive PSL title this season, currently top the log with 30 points from 12 matches.
Their dominant performances have seen them go unbeaten so far this season, winning nine matches and drawing three. They also have the most superior goal difference of 19.
The partnership news comes as they prepare to face fourth-place Stellenbosch this Saturday at the Danie Craven Stadium. Kick off is at 20h15.
