As most TV fans would know by now, E-tv has launched its own online streaming service called eVOD, through which South Africans can watch the channel’s programmes via an app downloaded from Android’s Google Play or Apple’s App Store.
The service was launched with MTN as its technology partner. Users will have access to E-tv’s original soapies and telenovelas as well as local and Hollywood movies.
eVOD app download
eVOD app download is available on Android’s Google Play here and iOS App Store here (iPhone users). MTN customers can also download it from MTN Play.
South Africans can also watch via a web browser on the eVOD website. However, some may be slightly disappointed that there is no viewing via smart TVs, Apple TV, Chromecast or AirPlay just yet.
Free and paid subscription options available
eVOD has both free and paid subscription options. According to the service, the free version will have more than 1,500 hours of free content available for viewing, featuring E-tv’s free-to-air programming.
Users who wish to watch premium content can pay for a subscription which starts at R5 per day. Weekly subscriptions are available at R15 and monthly at R29.99, with over 2,500 hours of content available.
Payments can be made via MTN or credit/debit cards. The service also offers movie rentals separate from the subscription options.
Examples of premium content on offer include Hollywood movies such as Transporter 3, and shows like Atlantis and Voëlvry, with an addition of at least 10 original movies every year.
Fans of soaps and telenovelas will be pleased about eVOD’s Fast Forward feature, which allows viewers to access episodes before they air on TV – up to five days in advance.
Furthermore, MTN customers who register for eVOD will get 4GB of data for every month until January 2022. This data allocation, which translates to about 14 hours of streaming, can only be used for eVOD.
Users of the free version will however access content at the lowest screen resolution (360p), while premium users will watch at resolutions of up to 720p.
E-tv and MTN aim to achieve 300,000 eVOD subscriptions within the first year of launch.

I do not get any good service by viewing it on my smart tv. It always freezes and stuck. I have missed so many episodes of all the Afrikaans series due to this problem.
