Mobile operator Vodacom has announced that it is offering a “comprehensive” support package for South Africa’s jobseekers via its ConnectU portal.
In a statement on Tuesday (4 May), Vodacom said the support package is aimed at connecting people to jobs.
Vodacom’s jobseekers.connected initiative
“Due to the pandemic, half a million South Africans lost their jobs in 2020 according to Stats SA,” Jorge Mendes, Chief Officer for Consumer Business at Vodacom, said.
“This has made the means to access opportunities even more critical, from finding a new job and re-skilling, to ensuring your CV/resume is relevant for future skills.
“We know that the majority of job seekers are under financial pressure, so our jobseekers.connected initiative has been designed to help customers find new roles, develop and learn new skills and explore new career opportunities.”
Vodacom launched ConnectU in April 2020. It currently has more than 250,000 jobseekers accessing the jobs portal every month.
ConnectU support package
The package includes discounted voice and data offers to give jobseekers continued access to learning and skills with Udemy via the ConnectU portal.
The discounts will also offer jobseekers access to six zero-rated job sites and Vodacom’s Future Jobs Finder tool via the portal.
More specifically, jobseekers will benefit from the following:
- Connectivity offers: Jobseekers can access the offers through the Just4You platform. They can also gain zero-rated access to select job portals i.e. without using their data.
- Profile promotion: Vodacom will donate Facebook advertising and media investment spend to jobseekers, “enabling them to promote their profiles and highlight their CV with suitable potential employers.”
- New Skills: Jobseekers gain access to 700+ free, curated courses on the global e-learning platform Udemy.
- Job Opportunities: Through the ConnectU portal, Vodacom subscribers can access multiple zero-rated job sites to find opportunities that match their profiles.
Zero-rated job sites on the ConnectU platform include Careers24, Career Junction, Giraffe, Jobmail, Youth Employment Service (YES) and SA Learnerships.
VodaBucks/Boston City Campus bursaries
In addition to the support package, Boston City Campus bursaries will also be available to jobseekers via the VodaBucks Rewards Programme.
“We understand that some jobseekers need qualifications in order to pursue some of the job opportunities in the marketplace; to this end, our VodaBucks Rewards Programme in partnership with Boston City Campus will award 15 lucky winners with bursaries to the value of R20,000 each,” Mendes explained.
