MTN MoMo App users can now withdraw cash at Pick n Pay

Mobile operator MTN has announced that MTN MoMo App users can now cash-in or cash-out at Pick n Pay stores across South Africa as from Thursday, 1 April 2021.

In a statement on Wednesday, MTN said in addition to bank EFTs, MTN stores or MoMo agents, app subscribers can perform transactions at Pick n Pay’s 1,647 stores.

Felix Kamenga, MTN South Africa’s Mobile Financial Services executive, said, “We’re pleased to extend our relationship with Pick n Pay by offering quick and convenient cash-in and cash-out services to our 2.8 million MoMo subscribers through Pick n Pay stores.

“Until now, MoMo customers have only able to cash-out through bank EFTs, at an MTN store or via a MoMo agent.

“Adding Pick n Pay to our offering will create greater convenience and accessibility for our customers – many of whom need to factor transport costs in when deciding to withdraw cash.”

MTN said customers should be registered on the MoMo app to perform transactions at Pick n Pay outlets. They also need an 8-digit Voucher Number and a PIN number.

What is MTN MoMo?

MTN MoMo (Mobile Money) is a secure mobile money service available on any South African cellphone number. One does not need to be an MTN customers to use it.

The following are some of the services subscribers can perform via MTN MoMo service:

  • Send and receive money to and from other MoMo customers.
  • Cash-in and cash-out at any MoMo agent or Pick n Pay stores.
  • Cash-out from ATMs.
  • Buy MTN airtime and bundles.
  • Pay for products and services from participating merchants and providers.
  • Buy prepaid electricity.
  • Pay DStv account.

To use the service, you need to download the MTN MoMo App which is available on Android’s Google Play and Apple’s App Store.

You then need to register on the app for free. Alternatively, you can dial *120*151# (for MTN customers only) on your phone.

The service has no monthly fees or charges. However, some transaction charges will apply. Cash-out at Pick n Pay will be charged at a flat fee of R8.
