If you thought Kwaito is fading away, Tshego ‘Tag-Team The Ghost’ Boshielo’s new Kwaito single Bula Boot, which is inspired by Kalawa Jazmee Kwaito legend Thebe, will prove you wrong.
The upcoming rapper and BCom law graduate grew up listening to Thebe with his siblings and has been a huge fan ever since.
Tag-Team The Ghost’s ‘Bula Boot’ is a tribute
A very different sound to his previous chart topping single Chisa, Bula Boot is a tribute to South African Kwaito legends who were the originators of the music genre and paved the way for upcoming artistes.
“The song was inspired by an old school jam by Thebe from Kalawa Jazmee called Bula Boot. It takes me back to the good old days, listening to kwaito with my siblings in the ‘hood,’” Tag-Team The Ghost explains.
“This is just a feel-good song that talks about the culture and hustling lifestyle in the township. I just wanted to pay tribute to the Kwaito legends in the music industry. The likes of Thebe, Oskido, Trompies, Zola 7, Mgarimbe, Mandoza, Spikiri, Brown Dash, Mdu, Arthur Mofokate, TKZee, Mzekezeke and many others.”
The multi-talented Tag-Team The Ghost started his musical journey learning how to play the guitar before moving on to bass guitar at a later stage.
His ensemble playing began with a seven-year stint in his church band, after which he joined a band called 5th element, boasting mentorship from Hugh Masekela’s former music director, guitarist and producer Erik Paliani.
Tag-Team The Ghost’s previous single Chisa garnered impressive airplay across major radio stations in South Africa such as Massiv Metro, Durban Youth Radio and Zululand FM, among others.
Reflecting on the future, Teag-Team The Ghost hopes to see his name in thing lights alongside Stogie T, Youngsta Cpt, A-Reece, Rouge and Patty Monroe.
Bula Boot is available on all major digital platforms. Listen to it on YouTube here.
