The much-awaited Coming 2 America, which stars Eddie Murphy alongside South Africa’s very own Nomzamo Mbatha, will launch worldwide on Prime Video on 5 March, 2020.
Amazon Studios has acquired worldwide rights to Coming 2 America from Paramount Pictures, according to a statement it released last week.
‘Coming to America’ sequel
This sequel to the iconic comedy Coming to America is set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, where newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) start another hilarious adventure.
The duo trots the globe from Zamunda to Queens, New York – where it all began. Their adventure also features original cast favourites from Coming to America such as King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones) and Queen Lisa (Shari Headley).
There are some massive new names in Coming 2 America as well, including Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler and of course, Mzansi’s favourite Nomzamo Mbatha.

Craig Brewer directs Coming 2 America, which is a collaboration between Paramount Pictures and New Republic Pictures. Eddie Murphy Productions and Misher Films are the producers.
Released in 1988, Coming to America became a box office sensation, amassing more than $288 million in total worldwide box office gross.
The popular comedy racked up more than 25 languages around the world and became a timeless cultural classic.
For South African fans, Coming 2 America has the added significance of starring one of its beloved daughters – Nomzamo Mbatha – among some of the world’s biggest names on the acting stage.
