Online streaming service Showmax has released the first trailer for its Original series Lebo M – Coming Home, which is set to launch on 2 December, 2020.

The trailer starts, like The Lion King, with Lebo M’s distinctive voice singing, “Nants’ Ingonyama,” from The Circle Of Life, off Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-winning soundtrack to the animated classic.

Global success

Lebo M has achieved global success in his inspiring musical career, winning a Grammy award and Tony nomination for his work on the highest-grossing Broadway production of all time.

He was also the executive producer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was fittingly held in his homeland South Africa.

The supremely talented legend’s songs have been streamed over 250 million times on Spotify alone. He won the 2020 DStv Mzansi Viewer’s Choice 1Life Legend Award.

Family man

Although he has worked with some of the “biggest and greatest, most talented people in the world,” Lebo M says he now wants to refocus on his family.

“I’m re-entering a phase in my life as a family man. Family has always been the basis under which I function better,” he says.

In the trailer, we see him throw a housewarming at his equestrian estate in Blair Athol, which he calls “our final home.”

He shares the mansion with his 90-something mother; four of his children; and Angela Ngani-Casara, his third wife.

Lebo M is the first to admit that his family history has sometimes been “dysfunctional.” He has been married three times and has had nine children, one of whom tragically passed away.

The tension with Tshepiso, his only surviving son, is especially apparent in the trailer. Tshepiso lives in Midrand and has just become a father himself.

Lebo M admits his relationship with Tshepiso is the worst “since he was born.” However, he adds, “I’m ready to face the music.”

Lebo M – Coming Home is the debut reality series from Dopezuluboi Productions, founded by Teddy Geldart.

Geldart is the well-known director of two seasons of Being Bonang. He also executive-produced the SAFTA-winning Living The Dream With Somizi S4 and Kwa Mam’Mkhize.
