The lockdown was no obstacle for South African musical star Haylea Heyns, who has released an exciting new single titled Blow Your Speakers.
The single comes soon after Haylea’s 2019 4-track EP My Heart Belongs in Africa, which featured a soft ballad of the same name as well as Whole, Gaining Ground and 3am.
Vocals in Durban, production in Cape Town
Amazingly, Cosher Studios produced Blow Your Speakers in Cape Town while Haylea recorded her vocals in her Durban hometown. This was due to the lockdown’s restrictions.
“Blow Your Speakers is a contemporary, upbeat pop song that expresses that feeling of falling in love for the first time,” says Haylea.
“That excitement – when your heart feels like it’s a speaker so loud it might burst – and when you can’t stop thinking of that person you’ve fallen for, [because] they’re the ‘hook’ stuck in your head. That’s Blow Your Speakers kind of love.”
Acting and theatre
Haylea is a proud holder of a BA in Music and Drama (Cum Laude). She is also an actress and theatre performer.
Notably, she played the role of Baroness Elsa Schraeder in London West End’s The Sound of Music international tour.
Haylea has also featured in popular musicals such as Shrek: The Musical, Into The Woods and a Christmas pantomime of Sleeping Beauty.
The talented artiste makes it a point to perform for charitable causes. In August this year, she was among performers for the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music’s “Voices Against Gender-Based Violence” virtual benefit concert.
