It’s official – Pitso Mosimane resigns as Mamelodi Sundowns head coach. Club president Dr Patrice Motsepe confirmed the latest Pitso Mosimane news in a statement on Wednesday.

Motsepe said Mosimane and his agent Moira Tlhagale, who is also Mosimane’s wife, had briefed him about their discussions with a “top Egyptian club.”

Sundowns was ‘aware of discussions’

“Sundowns has been aware of the ongoing discussions between Pitso Mosimane and the Egyptian club and with other North African clubs,” the billionaire business said.

Although he did not name Mosimane’s next club, widespread reports indicate that Egyptian champions Al-Ahly and Morocco’s Wydad AC have expressed interest.

Motsepe added, “I have received a warm and emotional note from Pitso and [I’m] very proud of his achievements at Mamelodi Sundowns. Pitso has been the most successful coach in the history of Sundowns and will always be a member of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family.

“I wish him, Moira and his family everything of the very best and I hope to see him coaching in Europe soon.”

Masandawana will make an announcement regarding Mosimane’s successor in due course, Motsepe said, adding that the club has developed “very good local coaches.”

Pitso Mosimane resigns – his statement

Mosimane also issued his own statement through MT Sports Marketing Management, the Sandton-based company his wife Tlhagale runs.

He said he has accepted an offer to join an “international team,” but did not name it. This ends his almost eight-year sojourn with Sundowns that has yielded five ABSA premiership titles.

Jingles wrote, “I am only going away to carry the spirit of the Yellow Nation with me. From the deepest of my heart, I am so grateful that the president [Motsepe] has blessed my move.

“I did not expect less from a man who has been so good and generous to me. My success is his success. Without him, I would not have achieved half of what I have.

“I leave this family knowing that our bond is unbreakable and hoping that with the passage of time, our paths would come together again. This is not a divorce. We shall remain bonded forever.”

The latest Pitso Mosimane news has caught almost everyone by surprise. Focus is now shifting to who is likely to take over the reins at Masandawana.
