Soccer fans have had plenty to talk about since the launch of Orlando Pirates new jersey 2020/21 season early on Tuesday (29 September).
The club unveiled the new home and away kits on social media and described them as “bold and modern.”
Major change
A major change is that Pirates’ traditional badge has been replaced with the skull and crossbones emblem on both jerseys. The home kit retains its traditional black colour, but the away kit is an entirely new orange.
The home jersey also sports white shoulder stripes and v-neck, while the away jersey has the classic three black adidas shoulder stripes. AEROREADY technology on the home jersey will wick sweat away and keep the players comfortable.
Some fans initially thought the famous CAF Champions League star was missing on the Orlando Pirates new kit. Luckily, it is still there, but has now been moved to the bottom right corner of the jerseys.
Commenting on the kits, Orlando Pirates’ media officer Thandi Merafe said, “The striking design of our new kit shows that we’re constantly progressing and growing as a club, while retaining our distinctive visual identity and logo.
“The result is a kit that keeps the traditions that are woven into our heritage and DNA, while signaling a fresh era for South Africa’s most-loved team.”
adidas South Africa’s sports marketing director Bob Maphosa added, “We focused on bringing unique elements to each kit, such as the iconic skull and crossbones and using orange for the first time in the club’s history.”
