SA Rugby has unveiled the Super Rugby Unlocked fixtures after announcing the resumption of the tournament from Friday, 9 October, 2020.
The COVID-19 lockdown imposed in March forced a suspension of the tourney. Fortunately, it now returns with an additional three teams – Cheetahs, Pumas and Griquas.
They will join the Bulls, Lions, Stormers and Sharks towards a finale set for 21 November, 2020.
‘Exciting series of matches’
“We’d like to thank all our stakeholders in getting to this point,” SA rugby CEO Jurie Roux said on Monday. “It has been an extremely trying time but thanks to Vodacom, SuperSport and the seven teams involved, we are able to resume rugby with a really exciting series of matches featuring the best players in the country.”
The first match will pit the Sharks against the Lions on Friday, 9 October, 2020 at 19h00 at Durban’s Jonsson Kings Park.
Cheetahs will take on Bulls the following day at 16h30, while Pumas will battle Griquas on the same day at 19h00. Stormers will have a bye on the opening weekend.
The team topping the standings at the end of the competition will be crowned champions. SA Rugby will then transfer log points to the Currie Cup, whose fixtures it will announce soon.
