Soweto-born producer and composer Lebo M has truly scaled the heights of the global entertainment scene. Fans best know him for lending his magical voice in The Lion King, the famous Broadway production that has won him a Grammy award and a Tony nomination.
He was also the executive producer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and his songs have been streamed more than 250 million times on Spotify. And earlier this year, he won the 2020 DStv Mzansi Viewer’s Choice 1Life Legend Award.
Lebo M – Coming Home on Showmax
What next for the living legend? Well, Lebo M is returning to South Africa with a brand new reality TV series called Lebo M – Coming Home, which will launch on Showmax in November 2020.
The 10-part series will showcase Lebo M’s legendary career. Fans will also get an opportunity to watch him create new music with Zahara, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Judith Sephuma and his daughter Refi.
Reality isn’t complete without a peek into the personal, so fans will follow Lebo M’s attempt at bringing his family together. He has been married three times and has nine children, one of whom unfortunately passed away.
From his third wife Angela Ngai-Casara to his 90-year-old mom and five-year-old daughter with Generations: The Legacy star Zoe Mthiyane, there are plenty of talking points.
“I was initially skeptical about a reality show. But having recently learned no one really knows who I really am in South Africa, my beloved home country of birth, I’ve become romantic about opening up and having my fans and audience here hang out with Angela and my kids via this conversation in 10 episodes,” Lebo M says.

The show will also feature other interesting talking points from Lebo M’s life, such as how he got his musical break as a nine-year-old, his memories of the 1976 Soweto uprising, how he went into exile in Lesotho by mistake as a teenager and how he spent lived on US streets.
Furthermore, fans can look forward to insider stories from his legendary career. For instance, he contributed to the soundtrack of the #1 box office hit Congo and has worked A-listers such as Oscar winner Hans Zimmer and Grammy Legend Award winner Quincy Jones.
Lebo M – Coming Home is produced by Dopezuluboi Productions, whose founder Teddy Geldart directed two seasons of Being Bonang.
He was also the executive producer of the SAFTA-winning Living The Dream With Somizi S4 and the popular Kwa Mam’Mkhize.
