South Africans can now make online reservations for the Tesla Powerwall battery directly from Tesla’s website.

The global electric cars and clean energy company made the announcement in a statement this week. Previously, customers could only import through distributor Rubicon.

“Customers for Tesla’s Energy products in South Africa can now find out more, reserve, or enquire through a new South African webpage,” Tesla said.

Powerwall is useful for storing energy and detecting outages. It acts as a backup when the power goes off, for instance during load shedding or storms.

“Unlike generators, Powerwall keeps your lights on and phones charged without upkeep, fuel or noise. Pair with solar and recharge with sunlight to keep your appliances running for days,” the company says on its website.

Tesla Powerwall South Africa price

According to the reservation webpage on Tesla’s website, the Tesla Powerwall South Africa price is R166,800 as at September 2020. The price is for one Powerwall battery and includes supporting hardware and VAT.

Customers would need to provide details such as home size, whether they have solar and an electric car or not and when they need their Powerwall.

They would also need to provide contact details. Once they place a reservation, a Tesla representative will get in touch to further discuss the project.

A Tesla app enables users to monitor their home’s energy and consumption in real time. It also sends alerts and enables remote control of the system.
