Popular rapper AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, has postponed his Fees For All Mega Concert to “later in the year.”
AKA made the announcement on Twitter on Tuesday. He did not provide a reason but wrote, “Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
He announced the concert at a press conference in November last year and said he hoped to raise R10-15 million for students in debt.
Mega Fees Foundation
The concert had been scheduled for 15 February, 2020, with the venue announced as Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.
Tickets went on sale as from 5 December at webtickets.co.za and selected Pick n Pay retail outlets.
The Super Mega said at the time that a fund, dubbed The Mega Fees Foundation, had been established “to receive pledges and donations and disburse funds.”
A website, feesforallmegaconcert.org, was also set up. However, at the time of publishing this article, the website wasn’t working.
AKA said his aim was to give something back to society, “Surely for everything I have been given, I have to give back.” He had hoped that his initiative would go beyond 15 February.
However, the plans are on hold now. The Fela in Versace hitmaker’s fans on Twitter reacted to the news with both disappointment and encouragement.
@uKilla_K replied, “The event is not even being promo’d; bet most people had forgotten that you set the date this week.”
@ptmasina added, “Do you realise that now was perfect time [for the] #feesmustfall concert?”
AKA nevertheless got encouragement from others such as @larry09946851 who said, “As long as it’s still happening flop alikho bhova.”
“It’s super fine Mega, all in God’s perfect timing,” added @blnktofdenation.
