Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is officially the first woman Chancellor of the University of Limpopo.
Dlamini-Zuma was inaugurated at a ceremony at the university’s premises on Friday.
She takes over from Dr Ruel Khoza and will serve until 2024.
In her acceptance speech, Dlamini-Zuma said she was humbled to have such an honour bestowed on her.
That the council and the greater community of the University of Limpopo should bestow such an honour upon me – a rural African woman – during its 60th anniversary is indeed humbling.

Former President Jacob Zuma attended the ceremony, which also marked the 60th anniversary of the University of Limpopo.
Zuma wore a ceremonial robe and appeared in jovial spirits.
The former president is set to address an African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) event on Friday evening.
The event will he held at the university and is part of ANCYL’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
Zuma will be accompanied by the Convenor of the National Youth Task Team, Cde Tandi Mahambehlala.
