Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has declared investigative journalism units amaBhungane and Scorpio as “enemies of the revolution.”
He also banned them from attending EFF events.
Malema made the declaration at the party’s memorial service for the late Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on Thursday.
We declare them as an enemy of the revolution, they should never participate in our events, we should never answer any question from amaBhungane, Daily Maverick from Scorpio. Let them write any nonsense they want to write about us.

He claimed that it’s actually Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan who “writes their questions.”
VBS money
Malema was reacting to a recent report by Scorpio that claims he spent money flowing from the collapsed VBS Mutual Bank.
According to the report, Malema used a bank card linked to Mahuna Investments, a company owned by his cousin, to fund his lifestyle.
Mahuna Investments allegedly received R5.3 million from Sgameka Projects, which is alleged to have received R16.1 million from VBS.
Sgameka Projects is owned by Brian Shivambu, the brother of EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu.
Denied allegations
Malema denied the allegations earlier this week.
He suggested that his brothers always travel with him and are the ones who made the card transactions.
At the memorial, he asked why Scorpio does not write about African National Congress (ANC) leaders alleged to have received VBS funds.
He wondered why there are no “diagrams” showing how President Cyril Ramaphosa raised money for his CR17 campaign.
