South Africa’s very own Percy Maimela has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest portrait using coffee granules.
Maimela set the record in Sandton City, Johannesburg, on Thursday.
He created a huge 5mx5m portrait of DJ Black Coffee using only ground coffee and leaving no negative spaces.
Guinness World Records officials were on hand to closely monitor his artwork.
They finally declared it legit after Maimela put in an arduous five hours into it.
The officials handed the official certificate to an ecstatic Maimela, who thanked his supporters.
Thank you guys for supporting me. This has been awesome. I hope you guys love what I just did, what we just did. I love you guys. Thank you!

Congrats from DJ Black Coffee
It seems everything DJ Black Coffee touches turns into gold. He lent his support to Maimela and it paid off.
The talented DJ was one of the first people to congratulate the equally talented artist. He tweeted:
South Africa’s @Percy_Maimela_ has achieved an official Guinness World Record for making the biggest artwork using coffee beans. Well done @SISessions @kayafm95dot9 for putting it all together.

Who is Percy Maimela?
The 33-year-old Maimela hails from Winterveld, north of Pretoria. However, he operates in Doornfontein, Johannesburg.
He initially wanted to be a scientist, but his passion for art was irresistible.
Maimela joined the Azanian Arts Development Centre in his hometown and, as they say, the rest is history.
Speaking to SowetanLIVE before his attempt, he hoped winning the record would open doors for him internationally.
A world record is not a Pretoria record or a Joburg record. I am hoping this will open doors for me.
