Julius Malema has paid tribute to the late Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.
In a tweet on Friday, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader said he’s saddened by Mugabe’s passing.
He called for the protection of Mugabe’s legacy, adding, “We must not allow our enemies to tell us how to remember him; we know our heroes.”
Malema accompanied his tribute with a past picture of himself and Mugabe.
Tributes continue to pour in for the former President of Zimbabwe, who passed away in a Singapore hospital on Friday morning.
President Cyril Ramaphosa described Mugabe as “a liberation fighter and champion of Africa’s cause against colonialism.”
The EFF hailed him as a liberation fighter “who secured the independence and self-sufficiency of Zimbabwe and its people.”
In a statement signed off by Secretary General Ace Magashule, the African National Congress (ANC) said Mugabe was an “ardent and vocal advocate of African unity and self-reliance.”
