Thuli Madonsela has denied ever inviting the public to pray for when she was the Public Protector.
In a Twitter reply, Madonsela said she only had private prayer sessions or faith leaders praying for her at events she addressed.
She was replying to a photo apparently proving that current Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane isn’t the first one to have prayers meetings for her.
Prayer rally for Mkhwebane
The Public Protector’s office came under some criticism on social media for using its official Twitter page to publicise a prayer rally for Mkhwebane.
The rally was organised by civil society group Democracy in Action and was held on Friday in KwaMhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal.
However, some defended Mkhwebane by circulating photos from 2016 showing Madonsela apparently being prayed for.
The photos were also posted on the Public Protector’s official Twitter page.
Mkhwebane similarly posted screenshots of the tweets on her private page on Saturday.
She asked whether her critics also criticised Madonsela back in 2016 or not.
