Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has bizarrely claimed that President Cyril Ramaphosa has flown to Moscow after the G7 meeting in France.
This is despite The Presidency posting a video on social media showing Ramaphosa landing in Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
Maimane posted the embarrassing claim on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
He went on to speculate that Ramaphosa is probably introducing himself to Russian leaders for a possible nuclear deal.
Word on the street is that President Ramaphosa has flown to Moscow from G7.
Wonder if he is introducing himself to Russian leaders which is what Zuma was going to do for him. Is there a nuclear deal on the way? #AskingForAFriend

Twitter users were quick to alert Maimane that contrary to the “word on the street,” Ramaphosa is currently in Tokyo – and there’s a video to prove it.
Amusement
It’s unclear where Maimane got his rumour, but it sparked plenty of amusement on Twitter.
Many cited it as an example of the “lamentable” state of opposition politics in South Africa.
Evans Kgasane replied, “With this kind of opposition leaders, I can guarantee you that ANC will lead South Africa forever.”
“What is wrong with this so called ‘opposition’? @CyrilRamaphosa has them losing their minds,” @krakajac added.
@dumigwebu also replied, “Opposition politicians have become gossip mongers. Hate to see it.”
